Monoethanolamine (MEA) has technical uses in gas treating to remove acidic gases like (CO_{2}) and (H_{2}S), in the production of detergents and personal care products as an emulsifier and surfactant, and as a chemical intermediate for pharmaceuticals and other chemicals.

It is also used in construction materials for its effects on cement and concrete, and as a corrosion inhibitor in metalworking fluids.
Other applications Construction: Improves the grinding efficiency and the strength and durability of cement and concrete when used as an additive.
Corrosion inhibitor: Added to metalworking fluids to protect machinery and workpieces from rust due to its alkalinity.
Other: Found in polishes, agricultural chemical dispersants, and hair waving solutions.
